“EYES DO NOT SEE WHAT
BRAIN DOES NOT KNOW”

The above message is true.  Let me give you an example.  Let’s say, I hand you an X-Ray, and ask what do you see in the X-Ray? If you are not educated in reading X-Rays, what you would see is an X-Ray film with white and black areas, and / or, areas of differing highlights and shadows.  There is more to the X-Ray film I asked you to comment than mere white and black areas, and / or, areas of differing highlights and shadows.

However, if you had learn’t to read X-Rays, then you would see more than just white and black areas or areas of differing highlights and shadows.  And, if you are educated in the interpretation of diagnosing disease by the characteristic that disease displays in an X-Ray film, then now, you are able to diagnose that disease.

So, if you are educated, you will see more and interpret what you see, correctly.  So, now this same X-Ray film is no longer a X-Ray film with white and black areas, and / or, areas of differing highlights and shadows, but more, much, much more.  Am I right?

This message does not only apply to X-Ray film interpretation but also in many areas of medicine, and also what you come across in your life.

Here is another example.  Suppose a patient of your’s presents with a swelling. To untrained eyes and uneducated brain, a swelling is a swelling or, shall I say, just a swelling.  But to a person who is educated in the knowledge that a swelling could be an abscess, a tumor, a hematoma and more, than this supposedly veiled innocuous swelling, is now differently seen, because this person’s education has allowed him / her to interpret the clinical presentation of this swelling, also has allowed evaluation of this swelling.

This ability he / she has achieved is only through education.  This educated person saw more in the swelling than just a swelling, right.

So, why I write and explain above, that “Eyes do not see, what Brain does not know”, is to tell you that there is no substitute for education.

You must learn, learn and keep on learning.

There must not be any stop to your learning appetite.  Good Luck and Enjoy Learning
